Dynamic Field is a CCK field that returns a textarea where you can enter custom PHP code.

So, this enabled you to really neat hacks via PHP like, if this field is X then do Y. ON the flip side, you could embed a view into a field OR run a SQL Query.

My task was to build a slide show that had custom button thumb nails. After several hours of research I found this post that exposes an undocumented feature in Views slideshow. This technique requires a shameless CSS hack unless you do some preprocess work. Add a little css transparency to the active slide and you have a rather full featured slideshow.
